The Upper Midwest Law Center is seeking a full-time paralegal! UMLC, founded in 2019 by Dr. Douglas P. Seaton, is a freedom-fighting litigation firm that advances justice by resisting government overreach, suppression of individual rights, and union corruption, among other causes critical for the liberty of all Americans. With a high win rate, committed donor base, and successful partnerships with national center-right organizations, UMLC has flourished in Minnetonka, Minnesota.
About the Role
The successful candidate ideally will possess 3+ years of complex civil litigation experience and the ability to manage a sophisticated and fast-moving docket. This person will report to the Senior Litigation Attorney. We place a premium on a positive attitude and high energy.
This is an in-office role based in Minnetonka, MN. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities
- File pleadings in state, federal, and administrative courts
- Maintain case files, manage the office calendar, and calculate docket deadlines in an organized and timely manner
- Draft legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings
- Maintain knowledge of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and support attorneys in compliance
- Communicate with chambers, court clerks, and outside counsel as needed
- Manage outside vendor relationships
- Create preparatory binders
- Assist attorneys as needed, work with minimal supervision, and take ownership of the litigation docket
Qualifications
- 3+ years of complex civil litigation experience
- Paralegal certification (or equivalent experience) is preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing Upper Midwest Law Center’s mission of protecting individual rights and enforcing limits on government power through litigation
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize and handle multiple tasks
- Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment and actively contribute to a culture of innovation and initiative
- Deep understanding of and commitment to the organization’s mission and litigation approach
