A hearing has been scheduled in the lawsuit filed by Alpha News, represented by the Upper Midwest Law Center, seeking the release of police body and dash camera footage related to the arrest of Senator Nicole Mitchell. The hearing will take place via Zoom at 3:00 PM on May 20, coinciding with the last calendar day of the Minnesota legislative session.
Meanwhile, the named defendants in the case, which include the City of Detroit Lakes and the Detroit Lakes Police Department, have answered the lawsuit’s complaint and indicated that they also want the Court to review the footage and make a determination as to whether it should be released.
“Given the substantial public interest in this issue, we are glad to see that a hearing has been set,” said James Dickey, Senior Counsel at UMLC. “Transparency is crucial in matters of public concern, and we are committed to ensuring that the truth comes to light.”
The lawsuit, filed in Becker County District Court, aims to shed additional light on the events surrounding Senator Mitchell’s arrest on April 22, 2024, in Detroit Lakes. To learn more about this case, click here.
