Political Violence Has NO Place Here

The Upper Midwest Law Center is shocked and deeply saddened by the news of Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Our hearts go out to his family, his loved ones, and the entire Turning Point USA community during this incredibly difficult time.

Political violence has no place in a civil society and is an unconscionable attack on the very foundation of our constitutional republic. While our country is built on the peaceful exchange of ideas, this act of hatred reminds us that the freedoms we hold dear can never be taken for granted.

As an organization that defends the First Amendment and has been a victim of politically motivated violence ourselves, we know firsthand that the response to speech can never be violence. It is our constitutional right to engage in spirited debate, even on the most contentious issues, without fear of reprisal.

We honor Charlie Kirk’s memory by reaffirming our commitment to the rule of law and the sacred principles of free speech. We pray for peace and healing, and we resolve to continue our fight to ensure that in our nation, the pen is always mightier than the sword.
